The via ferrata "In Memory of a Friend" was built in 2022 and offers an excellent challenge for those seeking adventure through climbing near Sarajevo. This via ferrata strikes the perfect balance—not too easy and not too difficult—making it ideal for individuals in average physical condition who are looking for a moderately engaging experience. Just below the ferrata is a sports climbing area with ten routes, allowing you to test your skills there if the ferrata itself doesn’t provide enough of a challenge. The ferrata is located near Hadžići. To reach it, turn towards the village of Gradac from the main Sarajevo-Mostar road after exiting Hadžići. You can park about 50 meters from the turn-off, and a marked trail begins on the right side of the road, leading to the ferrata. It is crucial to stick to the marked paths as the area is suspected to be mine-contaminated. The walk from the parking area to the start of the ferrata takes approximately five minutes. The ferrata itself is 115 meters long, with an elevation gain of 80 meters. Its technical difficulty is rated C/D, indicating it is moderately challenging, with an average crossing time of about 20 minutes. After climbing, the descent follows a steep but well-trodden and marked path back to the parking area. What sets this ferrata apart is that it is not just a physical challenge; it is dedicated to honoring a friend, adding an extra layer of symbolism to the entire experience. The ferrata also serves as a training ground for local climbers, making it perfect for those who want to experience technical climbing without a long journey from Sarajevo.
