Via Ferrata Kuk is one of the newest via ferratas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located in a stunning mountainous landscape that offers spectacular views of the surroundings. To reach the via ferrata, follow the main road from Foča to Gacko. At the appropriate turnoff, head towards the village of Čemerno and continue along the gravel road to the Papin Do mountain lodge. The road is about 8 kilometers long and is accessible for most vehicles during the summer months. Upon arriving at the lodge, parking is available nearby. If you wish to continue driving towards the summer pastures, it is recommended to use an off-road vehicle, as the road is not suitable for standard cars. This via ferrata is perfect for beginners, as well as for those who enjoy a challenge while taking in the natural beauty. Along the ascent, there are resting spots that allow hikers to enjoy panoramic views during breaks. The via ferrata is suitable for physically fit individuals who are accustomed to being in the mountains. The length of the via ferrata is 830 meters, with an elevation gain of 200 meters, placing it in the technical category B/C. This means it is not overly demanding but provides enough of a challenge for recreational climbers. The average time to complete the route is about 120 minutes, allowing ample opportunity to enjoy the views and the climbing experience itself. After finishing the ascent, you will reach a plateau, from which the descent follows a trail known as via normale. This trail leads downhill over open terrain and then sharply turns right through a beech forest. The turnoff is marked with a winter sign. A short walk through the forest takes you to the valley below Kuk, from where a marked path leads back to the Papin Do mountain lodge. For all nature lovers, hikers, and adventure seekers, Via Ferrata Kuk offers an unforgettable experience that combines natural beauty with a physical challenge.
