Railways
Two railway companies operate in different regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
ZFBH (Željeznice Federacije Bosne i Hercegovine):
Operates in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It includes the following routes:
– Doboj – Sarajevo – Doboj
– Sarajevo – Čapljina – Sarajevo
Trains also run from Sarajevo to Mostar. On the Sarajevo – Mostar route, modern, air-conditioned Talgo trains run several times a day, offering one of the most scenic train journeys in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Sarajevo-Mostar line has been ranked as one of the 18 most beautiful train journeys in the world by the esteemed British newspaper “The Guardian,” attracting a large number of tourists each year.
ŽRS (Željeznice Republike Srpske):
Operates in Republika Srpska
It includes the Sarajevo – Banja Luka – Bihać – Sarajevo line.
The railway connection between Bihać and Banja Luka was reestablished in 2018 and offers sleeping compartments.
Currently, there are no international railway routes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Train Reservations in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Reservations for regional trains are mandatory.
The reservation fee is 1.50 € (3 KM, local currency).
The price of the reservation depends on the distance traveled.
For international and overnight trains, prior reservation may be required.
