Radimlja Stećak Necropolis

Stećci are medieval tombstones located in the Balkans, particularly in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016. The Radimlja complex of stećci is one of the most significant and best-preserved necropolises of these tombstones. Situated near the town of Stolac in southeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Radimlja site features a collection of stećci adorned with intricate decorations. Some of these tombstones are richly embellished with geometric patterns, symbols, and scenes from everyday life. These monuments date back to the 14th to 16th centuries and are renowned for their historical and cultural significance. The Radimlja necropolis is recognized as part of the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its cultural importance and its contribution to the understanding of medieval burial practices in the region.
