Jajce Tours: Waterfalls, Fortress Views and Outdoor Cultural Tours

Jajce is one of the most iconic towns in central Bosnia, where medieval history meets natural beauty. Famous for its rare city-centre waterfall and centuries-old fortress, Jajce is also surrounded by lakes, rivers and hills that offer a mix of cultural sights and relaxed outdoor activities.

The Pliva waterfall remains the centrepiece of most tours. With its dramatic drop right at the edge of town, it’s a perfect starting point for walking routes through the cobbled streets, medieval fortress ruins, and catacombs carved directly into the rock. Sightseeing itineraries often include a visit to the old town, royal catacombs, the Church of Saint Mary with its iconic bell tower, and panoramic viewpoints from the fortress walls.

Beyond its historical core, Jajce offers a calm outdoor experience. Visitors can enjoy light hiking trails leading up to the fortress or along the banks of the Vrbas and Pliva rivers. Just outside the centre, the Pliva Lakes are a local favourite for canoeing, kayaking and cycling. Paths between the Small and Great Pliva Lakes are ideal for a nature walk or bike ride, with scenic stops at the wooden watermills still standing along the shore.

In summer months, swimming and picnicking are popular at the lakes, with some tours including optional water activities or boat rentals. These outdoor extensions make Jajce more than just a historical stop – they add an element of nature and soft adventure for travellers seeking variety in their itinerary.
