HISTORY OF JAHORINA
The first visitors to the Jahorina mountain were the Austro-Hungarians, who came for organized hunting and hiking. The Austro-Hungarian bourgeoisie built the first major structure on Jahorina in 1878. The first hunting lodge built there was destroyed by fire, as was the Romanija home constructed at the same location. In 1923, the first hotel was built, which is now known as Hotel Šator, and in the same year, the first pair of skis descended the slopes of Jahorina. After World War II, the burned structures were restored, and in 1947, Jahorina received electric lighting. The first lift on Jahorina was constructed and opened on November 29, 1952, and Jahorina reached its peak of prosperity during the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo, when the competition for women’s alpine disciplines was held. After the Winter Olympic Games, the entire mountain infrastructure was modernized, and both the slopes and the old and new hotel capacities were improved and renovated.
