Perucica Rainforest

UNESCO’s tentative or provisional list (a list of potential sites) serves as an inventory of properties located within a country’s territory that are deemed suitable for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Member states include in their Tentative Lists those sites they consider to be cultural and/or natural heritage of outstanding universal value, which they intend to nominate in the coming years. Nominations for the World Heritage List are accepted only if the site has previously been listed on the tentative list.

Perućica Forest has been on UNESCO’s tentative list since 2017. Located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. Situated within Sutjeska National Park, it is renowned for its pristine nature, rich biodiversity, and ancient trees. The forest is characterized by dense canopies, diverse flora and fauna, and minimal human impact.
