UNESCO's tentative or temporary list (list of potential sites) serves as an inventory of goods located within a country's territory that are deemed suitable for nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Member states include in their Tentative Lists those sites they consider to be of outstanding universal value as cultural and/or natural heritage and intend to nominate in the coming years. Nominations for the World Heritage List are only accepted if the site has previously been listed on the tentative list. Blagaj has been on UNESCO's tentative list since December 11, 2007. It is included on this list due to its exceptional natural beauty and significance as a cultural heritage site. Blagaj Tekija, located by the Buna River, is an important example of Ottoman architecture and spiritual life. Additionally, the Buna River, which springs from a cave, creates a unique karst phenomenon in the area. Blagaj boasts a rich history and symbolism that encompasses various civilizations and religions, enhancing its significance as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
