UNESCO's tentative or temporary list (a list of potential sites) serves as an inventory of properties located within a country that are considered suitable for nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List. Member states include those properties in their tentative lists that they believe hold exceptional universal value as cultural and/or natural heritage and plan to nominate in the coming years. Nominations for the World Heritage List are only accepted if the site has previously been listed on the tentative list. Počitelj has been on UNESCO's tentative list since January 2, 2007. It is a settlement located in the municipality of Čapljina, in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Situated along the left bank of the Neretva River, this site lies on an important route connecting Mostar with Metković, to the north of the town of Čapljina. Its urban center, dating back to the 14th century, represents an exceptionally well-preserved example of historical architecture and urban planning, and it is protected as a national monument. Počitelj stands out for its unique blend of Ottoman and Mediterranean styles, and its narrow streets, ancient town, and stunning views of the Neretva River make it an unmissable destination for lovers of history and culture.
