UNESCO's tentative list represents an inventory of sites within a country that are deemed suitable for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Member states include in their tentative lists those sites they consider to be of exceptional universal value as cultural and/or natural heritage, which they intend to nominate in the coming years. Nominations for the World Heritage List are accepted only if the site has previously been included on the tentative list. Bosnia and Herzegovina records nine locations on its tentative list, with Sarajevo being one of them. Sarajevo, a unique symbol of universal multiculturalism and a city that is always open, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since September 1, 1997. In October 2019, Sarajevo was designated a UNESCO Creative City due to its focus on culture as a core component of its development strategies. Sarajevo is the capital and largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its rich history, diverse culture, and significant role in the region. The city boasts numerous historical sites, including Baščaršija (the old bazaar), Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, and Latin Bridge, where Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in 1914, an event that triggered World War I. Sarajevo hosts a variety of cultural events and festivals, including the Sarajevo Film Festival, one of the largest and most prestigious film festivals in the region.
